The Gamification of Life

Life’s like a massive open-world RPG (role-playing game).

You pick your starting stats (genetics), choose your path (career), and level up with experiences. There are bosses (challenges) and side quests (hobbies), loot (achievements), and even guilds (friends and family).

That said, you might not know the end goal, but exploring, learning new skills, and making connections is the real W.

The more you learn, the more earn.

So for the record: learning isn’t just about financial gain. It’s about acquiring new skills that unlock exciting character builds and open doors to unexpected adventures.

For Love of the Game

This view of life as a game is a mindset shift – it flips the script on stress.

Here’s why:

  • Empowering: You’re the player, not a pawn. You get to choose your path and how you level up. It puts you in control. You make life happen because you know “life doesn’t happen to you”.
  • Motivating: Challenges become quests, failures become learning experiences, and successes feel like epic wins. It keeps you engaged!
  • Fun: Life can get serious, but this perspective adds a playful twist. It lets you find joy in the journey, not just the destination.

Ray Dalio, a renowned investor, emphasizes the importance of strategic thinking in his book “Principles.”

So just like in any RPG, life demands strategic decision-making to achieve your desired outcomes.

By viewing life through this lens, you become the mastermind architecting your journey.

So, if it’s good for my guy Ray, then is good for me too.

By viewing life like a game, it helps with the perception of life.

The Journeyman

Unique Character Builds: Life doesn’t restrict you to a single class.

Forget the warrior or the mage – you can be a multi-talented character, blending skills from diverse disciplines. Imagine a scientist with the persuasive charm of a bard, or an artist with the problem-solving prowess of a mage.

Moreover, the possibilities are endless, and the most fulfilling journeys often involve creating your own unique character build.

Procedurally Generated World: Embrace the Unexpected

Unlike a static game world, life throws curveballs. Technology disrupts industries, cultures evolve, and unexpected events unfold.

Additionally, this “procedurally generated world” keeps you on your toes and demands adaptability. Think of it as a hidden quest, a chance to pivot, learn new skills, and explore uncharted territories.

Emergent Gameplay: Your Choices Shape the Story

The beauty of life lies in its “emergent gameplay.”

Even more, every decision you make ripples outwards, impacting the world and the stories of others. A seemingly small act of kindness can unlock a hidden questline, leading to lifelong friendships or unexpected collaborations.

The narrative of your life unfolds with every choice you make.

Permadeath? Not Quite: Respawn and Respawn Again

Life throws setbacks like boss battles, but there’s no permadeath here.

These challenges are opportunities for growth. Failure is simply a part of the learning process, a chance to respawn with renewed determination and a revised strategy. Think of the most successful people – they constantly reinvent themselves, adapt to changing landscapes, and keep exploring new possibilities.

This is exactly what I’m doing.

The True Endgame: A Quest for Fulfillment

While there might not be a single “win condition,” the ultimate goal in this RPG is self-actualization.

Furthermore, It’s about becoming the best version of yourself, leaving a positive impact on the world, and forging meaningful connections along the way. It’s a never-ending quest for growth and fulfillment, a journey fueled by curiosity, courage, and the relentless pursuit of becoming the hero of your own story.

So, grab your controller and get ready to level up your life!
