ASICS SUPERBLAST | First Run Review

Months of anticipation finally came to an end as I laced up the ASICS Superblast for its maiden voyage.

What’s the word about FLYTEFOAM

Living up to the hype surrounding its high energy FLYTEFOAM Blast+ midsole, the shoe felt incredibly light on my feet, despite boasting a hefty 45mm stack height. Stepping outside, the initial walk revealed a surprising firmness – a stark contrast to the plush trainers I was accustomed to.

My first few strides were a revelation. The seemingly firm sole transformed into a responsive cushion, propelling me forward with a delightful bounce.

I kicked off with an easy pace, letting my body adjust to the unfamiliar feel. The wide base and pronounced rocker geometry of the shoe offered exceptional stability, even on uneven terrain. Asics boasts a 66% recycled upper material, a detail I appreciated during this eco-conscious era.

Around the 3-kilometer mark, I decided to pick up the pace. The Superblast transitioned seamlessly, the FLYTEFOAM responding with a surprising pop of energy return.

It wasn’t the explosive launch some plated racers offer, but a more sustained sense of propulsion that encouraged me to push further. While the upper felt comfortable, a slight heel slippage required a mid-run re-lacing, a minor adjustment for a shoe otherwise dialed in.

Returning home after a satisfying 8km run, my legs felt surprisingly fresh. The promised high-energy cushioning held true, with minimal post-run fatigue. While some reviewers find the Superblast a bit firm compared to other max-cushioned options, I found the balance between responsiveness and comfort to be delightful.

The ASICS Superblast isn’t perfect. The upper may require some fine-tuning, and the ride might be a touch firm for those seeking ultimate plushness. However, for runners seeking a lively, stable, and surprisingly lightweight high-cushioned trainer, the Superblast offers a fantastic first impression, leaving me eager to explore its full potential on future runs.
