Raf Simmons and Calvin Klein: The Deciding Factors

If you don’t know, Hall of Fame Designer has officially stepped down as Chief Creative Officer, after less than two years. What went wrong?

Per BoF – “Both parties have amicably decided to part ways after Calvin Klein Inc. decided on a new brand direction which differs from Simons’ creative vision,” the company said in a statement.

The first year was in deed a sucess for Simons. Sale jumped from 30 to 300% debuting his first collection with the American powerhouse. This was important for CK, as there goal was to increase the awareness and sales of there High-End goods. Also hoping it would create a halo effect for lower priced goods.

PVH, owner of both Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger missed sales projections in recent quarters. Leading to Chirico to criticize 205W39NYC as a “fashion miss” causing revenue to only grow at a 2% clip in the third quarter or 963 million. Shares free fall 35%.

In my opinion this is no way shape or form Raf Simons’ fault. I believe this is largely in part of an economic slow down we are starting to experience. Our consumer habits are beginning to slow and sales of  luxury goods are a great indicator to see slow growth. It’s just bad timing, I believe if this vary partnership stared in 2014 it would see much more success, on a sales and marketing perspective.

Lets remember Raf for his fire pieces!

We appreciate you and wish you continued success.
